How a Crossworded puzzle gets made

The personalization is interest and topic based. You choose the subjects; we handle the grid, the answers and the clues.

  1. 01

    Tell us who it's for

Add their name and roughly how old they are — that's what tunes the puzzle to the era they know best. Nothing more personal is needed.

A first name and a rough age range is enough to begin.

  2. 02

    Pick the topics they love

Browse a library of categories — music, sports, film and TV, books, food, travel, science, history, hobbies — and choose the subjects that sound like them. Add anything unusual in your own words.

Pick at least a handful across a few categories for a rich puzzle.

  3. 03

    Star the can't-miss favorites

Star up to five topics and we guarantee each one shows up in the grid. If someone absolutely loves basketball, basketball will be in there.

Starred topics get their own dedicated clues.

  4. 04

    Choose a level and build

Easy keeps the answers short and the clues direct. Medium is a daily-newspaper puzzle. Hard opens up the grid with longer answers and some wordplay. Building takes a couple of minutes — you can close the page.

    Easy · Medium · Hard

  5. 05

Send it, solve it, print it

Every puzzle gets its own link that works on phone and desktop, with one hint per clue and letters that turn red when a finished word is wrong. There's also a one-page printable sheet in the classic newspaper layout.

Weekly email delivery with the printable copy attached is coming soon.

What the finished puzzle looks like

A full 15×15 symmetric grid, roughly 70 to 80 clues split into Across and Down, one hint available per clue, and a print sheet with the grid in the corner and the clues wrapped beside and below it — all on a single page.
